As you may or may not know, in my previous life (when I used to be patient enough to craft), I had a craft blog called Oops! I Craft My Pants. I loved that little space on the internet. But, as life has progressed…I just started neglecting it. And, now I am a lazy crafter and just can’t keep up.
Every few months (or six!) I try to post a new tutorial…But, it’s just not what it used to be. So–In attempt to phase out that blog, I’m going to be reposting a few of my easy tutorials from that blog over here. You’ll have to excuse me if you’ve seen these posts before over there. You’ll also have to excuse me for my Oops! I Craft My Pants logo being all over the images. I wanted to prevent them being stolen, but that backfired because even I can’t steal them, and I no longer have the original photos. Oooh well.
Anyway! Here we go.

I have been wanting to paint a rug ever since I saw Jen’s over at Tatertots and Jello. Only, I was a little hesitant to spend $50 dollars on a bigger rug because I was fairly certain that painted rugs were too good to be true.
But, people! I’m here to tell you that painting rugs really DOES work. I was concerned about the paint rubbing off onto our feet and getting tracked all over our house, but that hasn’t happened at all. Even after we had a huge rainstorm last night. That’s what I like to call a rug win, you guys.
Since I was too scared to commit to a giant painted rug, I started off with just a little ol’ doormat from IKEA (the sindal door mat, which is only $4.99)
I actually kind of liked the rug plain, but I was determined to paint. So, I taped off a simple little design, then grabbed some neon spray paint and went to town.
I was super nervous when I started peeling off the tape. I was sure that the spray paint would have bled through the paint. But, it totally didn’t and so I celebrated by doing a little happy dance, then leaving it outside to finish drying.
Once it was completely dried, I sprayed it with some scotch guard and waited a few more hours before bringing it inside.
I am in love with the neon. It helps bring my otherwise boring living room some life. I can’t help but smile every time I see it now. And, at only $5? Come on people. It’s a no brainer!
Who knows, maybe one day I’ll attempt a larger rug? Only time will tell!
Thanks for reading.
