5 Ways to Make Money From Home

by Leave a Comment

I am so excited to share my five ways to make money from home!

If there’s one thing I’m passionate about, it’s helping moms to make money from home!

I mentioned in my previous post that sometimes I struggled with feeling like I had lost myself in the midst of motherhood. For me, making money is one of those things that helps me feel like “me” again. Plus, I love being about to stay home with my kids while also bringing in an income.

Believe me, I’m a part of multiple mommy groups on FB. I know they’re littered with posts about “MaKiNg MoNeY FrOm HoMe”, and gosh, if MLMs are helping those mamas feel empowered, more power to them! I once had pretty great success with one myself– But, realized I didn’t love having rules and wanted to run my business on my own terms.

Anyway, the point is, I totally believe you can make money from home doing things that you love. I have a bunch of posts coming up dealing with the how of this–But for now, enjoy this list of 5 simple ways you can bring in income for your family from home!

five ways to make money from home

1. Blog. I know. I know! There’s a bunch of people out there claiming that blogging is dead. But, it’s totally not. I haven’t posted on here in over 10 months (before my previous post), and I still receive money from my Google Ads every month. Imagine if I would have kept going.

2. Become a virtual assistant and make a full time income from home! Currently, I have two large clients (and a handful of “smaller” clients), and I am bringing in more than I could at a corporate job with just those alone. I am currently creating a course all about this (SHH!)–Seriously, anyone can do this!

3. Promote companies with Instagram. A lot of times, people think only users with a bunch of followers can make money by posting on Instagram, but there are a bunch of sites who will pay micro influencers $10-$20 per post. This may not seem like a ton, but the more you post, the more you’ll earn!

4. Teach yourself a new skill, and then charge people for it. When I was pregnant with my oldest, I taught myself how to use Photoshop and Illustrator. From there, I taught myself to code and create websites. Now, I have a steady flow of clients and a full blown business. Don’t ever tell yourself you’re too old to learn something new.

5. Go thrifting, clearance shopping, or to estate sales, and then sell your finds for a profit! There are a bunch of great stores that sell items for discounted pricing. Did you know you can make an entire business out of buying and re-selling items? Facebook Marketplace is your BFF!

I feel like I am just scratching the surface here. Believe me, if you love doing something, you can make a living out of it from home! You’ve just gotta make the decision to go for it!

Not “just” a mom

by Leave a Comment

How many times can I start a blog post with “is this thing on?” before you throw a book at my face?

I’m trying here, I swear it! The thing is…This mothering thing is hard. I feel like I have had so many intentions to try and start blogging again… But then I just don’t do it because I’m lazy. That, or all the chatter that blogging is dead. Or, maybe even because once the kids are in bed I just want to sleep. Maybe a combo of all of those things? I’m not exactly sure, to be honest.

What I DO know, though, is that I 100% miss writing. Writing used to be a daily thing for me…And now? I feel like It’s not even a monthly thing. Now I scramble to remember words most days. But I’m on a mission to change that because I miss it–and I’m on a big “self care” kick lately. Writing for sure lands under self care or me. So, here I am Writing without any regard for SEO or hopes of growing big. I’m just here because I like it.

Annnnyway!
I’ve been thinking a lot about how easy it is to lose yourself in motherhood.
When I was little, all I ever dreamed about was becoming a mother. So far, motherhood has exceeded all of my wildest dreams. My kids fill me up in ways I never imagined they could. I love them so much, and I am so proud of who they’re becoming.
Only–Somewhere in these 8 years I’ve been a mother– I forgot about ME. I was too busy loving them, that I forgot about loving myself.

I’ve been trying to be more intentional about making sure I am taken care of, as well. A few of these things include getting my nails done, making money, and being sure I get out of the house sometimes.

What do you do to remind yourself that you are more than “just” a mom?

Simon’s Birth Story

by Leave a Comment

Simon is here, and obsessed is an understatement. We are all so in love with him, and I don’t think there’s been a moment since he got home where someone hasn’t been holding him. He is pure perfection!

Anyway, I thought I’d sit down and write his birth story down before I forgot any important details.

__

On August 21, I woke up really exhausted. I chalked it up to pregnancy and tried to power through my day. But, I really don’t think I have EVER felt exhaustion like that. Tyler sent me to bed around 7, and I slept until 7 the next morning.

When I woke up, I noticed some blood when I wiped. I didn’t think much of it and just went on with my day. I took Eloise to school and then went to my OBGYN appointment with Hazel and Poppy. Poppy was TERRIBLE the whole time, and was really clingy to me. When the doctor checked me, I was dilated to a 3 and 50% effaced, which was exciting because I NEVER have any progress until I’m in active labor (usually).

After the appointment, we went to Wendy’s and then headed home to cuddle a lot. Poppy really needed to be close, and I wasn’t complaining!
I told Tyler she was acting like she knew something was about to happen. Then– Contractions started! I didn’t really think much of them, because I was only 36 weeks along. So, I scheduled a manicure and pedicure with Eloise and Hazel as kind of a last little “girls day” before we had a baby in a few weeks.

As I was getting my nails done, contractions picked up and I was pretty sure I was leaking fluids. So, I texted Tyler to meet us at home.

When he got home, contractions started picking up and fluids kept on leaking. So, we frantically rushed to get everyone packed and we headed to take the girls to my sister’s house so we could go get checked at the Hospital.

Once the girls were dropped off, Tyler and I stopped and got McDonald’s because that’s what we always do before a baby! I was too nervous to really eat, though. So, I ate a few fries and called it good!

When we got to the Hospital, not one believed me that I was having contractions or leaking anything. Since I was bleeding, the tests kept coming back inconclusive. They sent me for an ultrasound to check fluid levels, and they were right on the cusp of being normal and needing to deliver. So, they decided to admit me overnight to watch and see if I lost more fluid. Thankfully, my doctor came in and checked me and let the nurses know that I WAS in labor and to just let me labor until morning when he would come back and break my water.

Honestly, the whole night was kind of a blur. I was tired, but couldn’t sleep because I was too nervous and excited. I was worried about what a 36 week baby would be like (the nurses warned me he would need to be watched closely and possibly need NICU time)… But, thanks to my mom, Tyler, sister, and our birth photographer, I somehow made it through the long night.

By the time my doctor came to break my water, I had been up over 24 hours.

Around 6am, it was time to get ready to push! My doctor came in and was getting me all set up and we were all just laughing so hard because my ankles kept bending and my legs were so heavy from the epidural. I kept slipping off the stirrups and (being up so long) I thought everything was just really funny.

So, I was laughing so hard. Which made everyone in the room laugh, too. We really couldn’t get ahold of ourselves and were all just hysterically laughing. Even the doctor and all the NICU nurses and respiratory therapists who were attending the birth (as precaution). My OBGYN told us to just keep laughing, because the laughs were actually pushing the baby out!

At that point, I asked about whether or not he had hair (he did!) which made us all laugh even harder because I had seriously been stressing half the pregnancy about it.

It was amazing to look around the room and see so much JOY. None of us could wipe the smiles off our faces and I was simultaneously laughing at crying at the same time. I couldn’t believe our baby boy was about to be here!

With one big push (and a lot of laughing before hand) he was out!

Our baby boy was finally here. And he was born into so much happiness. He really brought all the sunshine that day!

He was quickly whisked away by the respiratory therapist and they did all their little tests on him next to me. I was dying to hold him, but knew that since he was so early they needed to be extra careful with him.

After what seemed like forever, they told me that they were surprised he didn’t need any interventions and that he looked perfect.

Simon Jack Senneff was born on August 23 at 6:08 am
5 lbs 10 oz, 18 in

Our tiniest babe yet.

He is a champion at eating (despite the warnings from our lactation consultant and nurses), and just the cuddliest little guy ever.

It felt amazing to see the girls meeting him because, finally, our family is complete!

Big thanks to Jackie Stuver Photography for the gorgeous pictures!

Oh HEEEEY

by Leave a Comment

So…It’s been a minute since I’ve blogged here.
And, man! Does it feel good to be back. Okay, maybe I’m not really BACK back–But for the second I am here and it feels gooooooood.

Anyway.

I feel like any time I take a long blog break I have to explain myself and where I’ve been. Dumb, I know. But–Here we go!

Our life in bullet points since Poppy was born.

– Poppy is now almost two. I don’t want to talk about it. But, she is pure sunshine and always makes us laugh. We are really lucky she is in our lives, because we really need her personality always, but especially when things get crazy.

– Eloise is almost 7. Again…I don’t want to talk about it! She is wrapping up 1st grade, and is just such a peacemaker. She is a great big sister and a little smarty-pants, to boot. She is obsessed with anything Fox, and has probably a zillion fox toys.

– Hazel is 5 and will start Kindergarten in the fall. She is SO ready to get out there and mingle. She is a liiiittle (a lot) boy crazy, and is always telling me about handsome boys. Mainly Zac Efron. She is really helpful with Poppy during the days Oh, and she is still completely obsessed with cats. No change there!

– Tyler and I opened and closed a LuLaRoe business. It was super fun while it lasted–We built an amazing team and had the BEST customers– But, we just couldn’t turn a blind eye to some of the things LuLaRoe founders and home office were doing. It took a little while to not feel super bitter about them– But, now I am just grateful that we had that experience so we know what NOT to do in the future 😉

– I am pregnant with baby number four.
I know. 4 kids. I never thought it would happen, either. But I am 20 weeks along (18 in this pic) and it is a baby BOY. We are so excited, but also sort of panicked because–What do you even do with a baby boy after 3 girls? We can’t wait to see his cute little face in September.

I think that about sums up these past few years! Maybe I will be back before baby boy turns 2?

Poppy’s Birth Story

by Leave a Comment

It’s 2:30 in the morning, and I can’t sleep. Of course! Poppy is peacefully sleeping in her Doc-A-Tot next to me while I’m wide awake.
I’m sure I’ll regret staying up in the morning, but for now, I’m just feeling too overwhelmed with love for her. It’s really sappy and cliche, but I really feel like she filled a void in my life I didn’t even know was there.

In fact, the quote by Lain Thomas that says”And then my soul saw you and it kind of went ‘Oh, there you are. I’ve been looking for you.'” perfectly sums up how I feel about her. She makes me so ridiculously happy.

73

Anyway, while I was up and the house was silent, I figured I should write out Poppy’s birth story. I really loved going back and reading Eloise and Hazel‘s stories, so I wanted to make this a priority.

Since this is a birth story, I’m sure I will talk about my vagina. So, if that creeps you out, catch the next post (probably in 5 years, with the kind of blogger I am these days).

___

For some reason, Poppy’s pregnancy was really hard on me. My body hated it, and made it known by sending shooting pains to my vagina every time I stood up. And by throwing up all the time. Oh yeah, and by giving me pneumonia at 36 weeks pregnant. It was super disheartening, and I was really depressed a majority of my pregnancy. I really started doubting how I could care for 3 little girls — especially since pregnancy was so hard this time around.

Once 37 weeks hit, I was ready (MORE than ready, actually) to be done! I had high hopes that I’d go early since I gave birth to Eloise at just shy of 39 weeks, and Hazel right at 38 weeks. But, it didn’t happen. Every appointment, I went in thinking my doctor would tell me I was dilated or SOMETHING so I could have that little hope to hold onto. Week after week, though, the answer was always the same. I had no changes to my cervix (I know that doesn’t mean much in terms of birth coming soon, but I needed to hear my body was making progress in order to make it through another week)… Every appointment I left more and more defeated.

Then, a few days before I turned 39 weeks pregnant, my doctor had me come in for one last check. I vented and asked him to just induce me… and when he checked my cervix, he told me I would be a good candidate. SO! We scheduled an induction for that Thursday (39 weeks exactly).

I left that appointment feeling so great.
I’ve never been a huge fan of elective inductions, but at that moment, I knew it was the right decision for us.

That Wednesday night, we dropped our girls off with my sister and went on one last date. It was such a weird feeling knowing that the next time we’d see Eloise and Hazel, they’d have a baby sister.

When Thursday morning rolled around, Tyler and I quietly got ready to go. We grabbed McDonald’s breakfast before going into the hospital (at 6am), but I was too nervous to eat much.

1
Once I was checked in at the hospital, the nurse decided to check me, and we were all surprised to find out that I was already dilated a 3 (a lot better than the fingertip I was at my doctor’s appointment 2 days prior!)…They started pitocin and I got my epideral around 8:00 and I texted my mom and sister that they could come over at any time.

Since Hazel’s birth went so quickly, they decided to start setting up for the birth, just in case she decided to come quickly. It kind of freaked me out seeing everything ready to go like that, but it also made me really excited that I could potentially have my baby girl there soon.

When my family arrived, I was at a 5 and feeling super sick. I’ve never felt sick during labor, so it was weird for me…But, I also kind of loved that I got to throw up in one of those huge blue throw up bags. I’ve always wanted to do that.

About 20 minutes later, I felt a ton of pressure but didn’t want to tell anyone because the nurse had just checked me and I thought it was impossible to go from a 5 to a 10 that quickly. But, finally, I decided to let my nurse know. She checked me again and told me I was complete! She rushed to call my OBGYN and everyone else needed for the birth.

Then, it was time to push.
I quickly told my doctor to PLEEEASE not let me tear this time, and he told me he’d try his best.

They had me push two little pushes (to get her down a bit more) during a contraction, and then my OBGYN did the rest of the work. It was the craziest thing I have ever experienced. He was massaging my stomach, and gently pushing her down. I didn’t have to do anything, I just sat there in awe as he massaged my baby out of me. It was such a peaceful thing to watch, and even thinking about it makes me cry. It was beautiful.

104
Once she was out, they measured her and weighed her. I remember being really annoyed because I wanted her handed to me the second she was out. But, instead I just stared at her across the room. She was so tiny and beautiful. She weighed 6 lbs 9 oz (7 oz bigger than her sisters), and had the most perfectly round head I have ever seen on a newborn.

untitled-7
When they finally handed her to me, I just couldn’t stop staring. She was so beautiful, and I could just feel her sweet little personality radiating out of her from the second I met her.

untitled-2
We are so in love with our Poppy girl.
Her big sisters love her so much, and are actually really helpful, which is nice!

She is such a good baby and only cries when she is frustrated while trying to eat. And, even then it is just for a few seconds and then she calms right down when she finds the goods.
I have no idea how we got so lucky, but I’m so happy she is ours.

Every Spring, I get the itch to change up my hairstyle. Does that happen to you, too? I always want to chop it off and go a bit lighter, which is just what I did the other week!
I’m loving my new “lob” (long bob) and lighter color, and my hair feels a lot less heavy now, which is always a good thing.

While I was at the hairdresser, my stylist gave me a bunch of great tips on how to keep my hair looking and feeling healthy. She told me that of course, it starts with great product. So! I have been on the hunt for something nourishing for my hair, and something that won’t make it feel weighed down and gross.

garnier whole blends
So, I was pretty pleased when I found Garnier Whole Blends Hydrating Hair Care at my local Walmart.

shampoo isle
They come with carefully selected ingredients to help nourish, hydrate, and repair hair, which is just what I was looking for!

I grabbed the Garnier Whole Blends Hydrating Whole Blends with Coconut Water and Vanilla Milk line because it sounded like it would smell delicious (IT DOES!), and because it quenches and softens de-hydrated hair, like mine.

Since I’ve started using Garnier Whole Blends Hydrating Whole Blends with Coconut Water and Vanilla Milk, I have noticed that my hair is a lot softer and overall just looks so much more healthy compared to how it used to look. Not to mention, the smell is out of this world amazing. I always catch myself sniffing my hair throughout the day, which I’m sure looks really normal to onlookers! Hah!
leave in conditioner
Another tip my stylist gave me was to towel dry my hair before putting conditioner in. She said that this just helps the product get deeper into the hair shaft because there isn’t as much water there to repel it. Makes total sense, right!?

I did this before applying the Hydrating Mask, and could hardly believe how soft it had made my hair!

Her last tip was to go a few days without styling my hair, so that the heat won’t cause so much breakage. This one was tough for me, because I don’t love how my hair air dries. Luckily, I figured out how to make a head wrap with no sewing! I think it’ll be my go-to all Summer long.

no sew turban headband
It was super easy to make, all I needed was some jersey fabric (or an old t-shirt), scissors and some hot glue.

Then, I just cut my fabric into a long strip, cut that strip into two pieces (about 8 inches each) and folded them in half, right sides out.

DIY no sew turban headband
After that, I just interlocked them both into an “x” shape.
criss cross headband
Then, I cut a little piece of fabric into a rectangle, and hot glued all ends onto it.

I just made sure all ends were concealed, and that everything looked finished off.

I think it turned out pretty well, don’t you?

Those tips from my stylist, plus the Garnier Whole Blends Hydrating Whole Blends with Coconut Water and Vanilla Milk are sure to keep my hair looking great all Summer long!

Baby Registry Must-Haves

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #NurseryMusts #CollectiveBias

Hey everyone! Long time, no see — right? This pregnancy has been killing me! But, I think I’m finally on the up and up. Maybe. I hope.

Anyway, as a lot of you know, we are starting from scratch with this baby! We were sure we were done having kids after we had Hazel 3 years ago, so we sold every single baby item that we owned. We have no baby items at all. Not even clothes. To say it has been an adventure to re-buy things would be an understatement! There have been so many new and awesome baby products made in the last few years, that it is hard not to get side-tracked when buying the essentials. It has been so overwhelming! Finally, I just had to make myself a check-list of things this baby had to have, and then just go from there. I’ve included a printable of that checklist at the end of this post!

must have registry items

For now, though– I wanted to tell you about a product that has changed my life these past few weeks. Okay, okay, maybe that is a little bit dramatic. But, guys! I watch my niece Zoe 3 times a week at my house, and the Playtex Diaper Genie Complete has been a life saver at wrangling her dirty diapers and keeping the smell away from my super pregnancy nose.
Really, after watching her for a day, I knew I needed something to help control all the diapers. With my girls, I just used a normal trash can, but there was no way my morning sickness would let me get away with that this time. I honestly can’t ever imagine even going back to using a normal trash can for diapers!

Here are a few fun facts about the Diaper Genie Complete:

  • The  Diaper Genie Complete is the most advanced Diaper Genie system there is! You can’t find anything better.
  • The Ultimate Odor Lock system features a 7-layer refill bag with double Air-Tite® CLAMP. I cannot even TELL you how much this feature has saved me from running to the bathroom to throwing up! I told you, this pregnancy has been hard! 😉
  • There’s a built-in carbon filter that helps to absorb and lock in strong diaper odors. Again, a life-saver for me this pregnancy!
  • This is Diaper Genie’s easiest system yet. It has a foot pedal for one-handed diaper toss and it’s just the right height for an easy no bend diaper toss. Plus, changing the bag is so easy with the new front tilt bin.
  • Diaper Genie Complete holds up to 270 dirty diapers. What! diaper genie side view

Setting up the Diaper Genie Complete was a breeze! All I had to do was click a few pieces together and add the bags, and waaahla. A sleek (and slim!) diaper pail. I am excited to add this to my little gal’s nursery. For now, though, it’s in my living room and I love that it isn’t an eye sore.

I know, I know! You want to run out and buy The Diaper Genie Complete right now, don’t you? Luckily, Target makes it simple because they’re your one stop shop for baby supplies! Plus, they are the #1 spot for your baby registry.

I found the Diaper Genie Complete right on the diaper isle, next to the wipes.

While you’re in the baby section, though, be sure to grab some Playtex Nurser with Drop-in Liners, too! It has been an adventure trying to get my niece Zoe to eat while her mama is away at work, but these bottles have changed eating time for the better! She now loves to eat and doesn’t hold out on me until her mom returns anymore. I couldn’t recommend these bottles enough! Playtex baby items really do make for better beginnings.
